She was a sports reporter for some of the largest outlets in the nation. She spent nearly a decade at The Washington Post covering football basketball, soccer, numerous Olympics and Grand Slam Tennis. Nichols spent nine years at ESPN, where she won the network two Emmy Awards. She was also part of the network's Monday Night Football broadcasts as a sideline reporter. Then, she switched to CNN sports and then Turner. Unguarded With Rachel Nichols was the first program she hosted and created. The show aired on CNN International and CNN. More than a billion people watched the show across the globe. Nichols also reported on behalf of TNT in NBA broadcasts during playoffs and broadcasts of the All-Star games. Her work with TBS also included golf and baseball coverage as well as Final Four broadcasts by CBS. In the 42 year history of this award, this was the first time that a woman had been among the 200+ nominees.
