Inspired by the shadows she observed on the ground, the artist spent many weeks perfecting the technique used that allows objects to be represented in two dimensions on canvas. When the objects are alive or a thing that can be eaten, like fruits and people, they become a painting of them. Alexa's painting style is ephemeral, the only thing left of Alexa Meade is her photograph. Both the painting and photographic methods are tightly interwoven that the result is an unflat, 2-dimensional space which is able to achieve trompe l'oeil, wherein the third dimension can only be seen in specific areas, such as near the eyes or hair. Meade will sometimes integrate her painting into the surrounding three-dimensional environment and allows the model to be a part of the context of their own. Thereby repealing the boundaries between photography, painting performance and installation.
