Los Angeles native Beth Hart the blues-influenced rock singer and street performer who made her debut in 1995 with Immortal, attracting attention for her raw, outspoken personality, gifted musicianship, emotion-filled live shows, and a voice compared to those of Janis Joplin. "Hart is the embodiment of a normal woman," wrote Chuck Taylor for the October 2nd, 1999 issue of Billboard magazine "bawdy and funny, chatty and free-wheeling with her choice of spicy language. This isn't her true talent. She's a graceful, tall, elegant singer/songwriter who sings and dances with the vigor and enthusiasm like Mick Jagger . Other times she's seated on the piano or at the at the center stage with no formality. Her legs are crossed to the edge of the chair, and she sings in a soft, aching voice. "Drawing responses like this starting from the moment she took the stage for amateur contests as a teen, Hart nonetheless experienced misgivings regarding the business of music as her career started to grow. Hart quit her band after it was unsuccessful touring the world. Hart then spent nearly four years soul-searching and resolving problems with music writing. Hart was ready to give her professional career a second chance and returned in 1999, releasing Screamin' for My Supper. The album that showcased Hart's songwriting skills, and featured vulnerable, honest tracks about facing life's problems.
